01-05 Civic K-Swap
Wiring Guide

Without a properly working electrical system, our freshly installed K-Series engine won't do much besides looking good in our engine bay.

But what's actually required to change, solder, and re-wire to get a K20 motor firing up in a 01-05 Civic?

Step 1) C101 Plug

This is the main connection between the K-Series engine harness and the chassis harness. It ensures proper communication between the engine's sensors and other systems in your car.

Here, we have to re-locate a bunch of wires since the wiring of the K-Series engine harness differs from the stock D-Series.

Step 2) Oxygen Sensors

The oxygen sensor is part of the exhaust system and measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gases. The 01-05 Civic has two of them, one mounted prior to the catalytic converter and one right after.

The second oxygen sensor mounted behind the converter is used to determine the efficiency of the converter itself - converting the toxic exhaust gases of the engine into less-toxic carbon dioxide.

In our K-Swapped Civic, we can simply plug it into its original counterpart of the chassis harness.

When we look at the primary oxygen sensor mounted before the converter, things become more interesting.

This sensor helps the engine control unit calculating the right amount of fuel that gets sprayed into the motor.

Unfortunately, this sensor isn't part of the chassis harness of our Honda Civic. We need to run the wires separately to the ECU.

Besides, we also need to wire in a relay for the heater unit inside the sensor.
